Hundreds of Deaths in Intensive Care Departments Could be Prevented


Patients who spend more than two days in intensive care departments are at major risk of contracting infections. If these people were given preventive antibiotics, about 540 deaths could be prevented annually. This is the conclusion of research by Anne Marie de Smet of the Utrecht University Medical Center.
