Dutch Monitor of Human Trafficking Criticizes Minister

Corinne Dettmeyer, the Dutch monitor on human trafficking has criticized the shortening of the time in which victims of human trafficking are entitled to register complaints. The proposal of the Minister of Immigration Gerd Leers (Christian Democrat) is that such complaints can only be registered during three months after they have been liberated from this situation. Dettmeyer thinks that this contradicts the European treaty on human trafficking. She said that the time period should be longer, because prostitutes who are the victims of human trafficking are often reluctant to contact the police.
